Obituary

Catherine “Cathy” Sue Headrick, 72, died on February 19, 2026, in Cedar Park, Texas, held close by her son, daughter-in-law, and her brother. Born November 8, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, Cathy grew up to become a woman of deep faith, irrepressible joy, and a playful mischief that everyone who loved her will miss dearly.

Her faith was the foundation of everything. Nearly every page of her Bible was marked up and filled with notes, a testament to a life spent in sincere pursuit of God. Cathy served faithfully in children’s ministry for many years, pouring into the lives of young people with patience and creativity. She frequently served with kids at her church, was an actor in Caraway Street, played the most ridiculous character roles, and was a children’s leader at BSF. She traveled on mission trips to Honduras to serve orphans, carrying the same generous spirit across borders that she brought to every room she entered.

Cathy and Jim were married on January 10, 1987, in Clark, Nevada, and spent nearly 32 years building a life together defined by generosity, laughter, and genuine love for the people around them. They made their home in California, Washington, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Missouri over the years, building roots and friendships wherever they landed. Cathy and Jim put down deep roots in the St. Louis area, where she worked at St. John’s Lutheran in Ellisville and later attended St. John’s Lutheran in Arnold, building lasting friendships and a community that shaped so much of who she was.

After losing Jim in December 2018, Cathy moved to Austin from St. Louis, to be near her son and his growing family. Even as dementia gradually reshaped her world in her final years, she always maintained her bubbly personality and heart for people. At her assisted living community, she became a fixture in the lobby, sitting with the ladies, swapping stories, and checking on neighbors. She also lit up anytime her grandchildren came to visit, and talked about them all the time.

Cathy is survived by her son, James Headrick, and his wife Melinda; her grandchildren, Grace (3) and Joshua (8 months); and her brother, Steve Manhart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim (James Walter) Headrick (1954–2018), and her parents, Robert Marion Manhart (1933–2018) and Mary Ann Tichenor (1934–2018).
